A repeat of a scam that fleeced drivers in Bray and Greystones last October, bogus QR stickers were placed on two parking machines and Payzone signage in Wicklow town, and one machine in Arklow, with the QR code sticker bringing the user to a fraudulent cloned website which requests credit card details and other personal data. Having reported the scam to Payzone, as a precaution, Wicklow County Council advised all users not to scan any QR codes or bar codes that may appear on pay and display machines or Payzone signage.“Wicklow County Council became aware of an attempt to install bogus QR stickers which were placed on some machines and Payzone signage,” a WCC spokesperson said.“All pay and display machines in the Bray, Arklow, Greystones and Wicklow Municipal Districts were checked, and bogus QR codes were detected on three machines, one in Arklow and two in Wicklow.“The bogus QR codes on the three machines have been removed, and we have reported this to An Garda Síochána and Payzone.
