It has been a stellar season for the Wicklow hurlers, and their 3-27 to 0-11 demolition of Louth in Aughrim, underlined just how dominant they have been in 2026.
The win secured promotion and a place in the Division 3 league final against Donegal, in a season where the Garden County have lifted the Kehoe Cup.
From the word go, James Boland signalled Wicklow’s intent, striking a long-range point before setting up Fionn Darcy for a brilliant early goal. Darcy would go on to score 2-7, finishing the game as the standout performer.
Wicklow’s relentless attacking play saw points come from all over the field. Pádráig Doran, Brandon Ryan, Jack Phelan, and Pádraig Doyle all contributed as the home side raced to a 1-7 to no score lead inside ten minutes.
Louth briefly got on the scoreboard, but the gap only widened as Eoin McCormack and Darcy added crucial scores, sending Wicklow into half-time with a commanding 2-14 to 5 lead.
The second half was more measured but no less effective for Wicklow. Doyle’s frees and points from Ryan and McCormack extended the lead, while Darcy added his second goal with a fine solo effort, showing why he is one of the standout forwards in the league.
By the final whistle, Wicklow had run out 25-point winners, 3-27 to 0-11, capping a performance of pure authority. The win not only confirmed promotion but also cemented Wicklow’s reputation as a team on the rise.
Combined with their Kehoe Cup triumph earlier in the season, the Garden County side has enjoyed one of the most successful campaigns in recent memory.
With the Division 3 final against Donegal hurlers next up, Wicklow will head into the game brimming with confidence, looking to cap a remarkable season with silverware once more.
