Tánaiste and Wicklow TD, Simon Harris met Bray Residents last night, Tuesday 10th June, to give his full support for the campaign to prevent the closure of Herbert Road.
Herbert Road off the N11 is a key route into Bray and the surrounding areas.
Simon Harris is describing any plans to close it as both as “crazy” and “poorly-thought out”.Thr
Wicklow TD told residents he'll seek a meeting with his Cabinet colleague, Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, along with fellow Oireachtas members in Wicklow on the matter.
He's also assuring residents he has been actively engaging with Wicklow County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland in outlining in the strongest possible terms his absolute opposition to this road closure.
Speaking following the meeting, the Tánaiste said:
The strength of this campaign has illustrated the community spirit that exists in North Wicklow.
This proposal simply cannot happen; It will be bad for residents, for commuters, for businesses and the wider community in Bray.
I have had extensive engagement with Wicklow County Council on this matter; I believe a rethink of these proposals is ongoing and I intend to continue to engage with the community to ensure Herbert Road remains firmly open into the future.
