Motorists travelling between Kilcullen and West Wicklow may be impacted.
A security alert is understood to be underway in Co. Kildare this evening.
The road between Kilcullen and Naas has been closed for several hours while emergency services attend the scene. The army bomb disposal team is at a landfill site in the area.
It is understood the alert was raised by two young men who came across a suspicious device about a kilometre from Kilcullen, not far from the West Wicklow county border.
Motorists and other road users are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Gardai and the Department of Defence say they do not comment on “ongoing operations for security reasons”.
