Speculation is growing that the Director of Public Prosecutions will decide in the next few weeks on whether or not to charge Wicklow rapist Larry Murphy over the murder of teenager Deirdre Jacob.
18 year old Deirdre was last seen near her home in Newbridge County Kildare, at around 3 o’clock on the afternoon of the 28th of July in 1998.
Now 55 years of age, Larry Murphy from Baltinglass was convicted in 2001 for the kidnapping, repeated rape and attempted murder of a woman in February of 2000.
He was released in 2010 after serving just 10 years.
In August of 2018 Deirdre’s case was upgraded to a murder investigation.
In February of last year a file was sent to the DPP, and media reports suggest a decision on whether charges will be brought against Murphy is due shortly.
