Wicklow’s Pure Project has been allocated €115,000 worth of government funding to help continue their work in tackling the spread of illegal dumping.
The organisation works with several state bodies and stakeholders, including Wicklow County Council to encourage communities to keep their locality litter free.
In 2008 the group removed 436 tonnes of illegally dumped waste from the uplands with that figure dropping by almost two thirds in 2019.
However there has been a spike in reports over the summer months at beauty spots around the county.
These include Glenmalure, Manor Kilbride, Rathdrum and Lough Dan in the Wicklow Uplands.
