The official opening of the new Wicklow town library and archives on the corner of Main Street and Salt House Lane will take place next Monday.
But questions are being raised as to why two government Ministers will be attending the event in an official capacity.
The Minister for Housing, Fianna Fail’s Darragh O’Brien will be in Arklow on Monday morning to turn the first sod for the new Waste Water Treatment Plant.
He will then travel to Wicklow Town to cut the ribbon to officially open the new library for which his department funded 80% of the costs and he will also officially open Fitzwilliam Square.
However Fine Gael’s Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphries, will also be present for the library opening, but because of Covid restrictions, the official ceremony will take place in the grounds of Wicklow Gaol at midday.
Speaking to East Coast FM’s Morning Show, Ceatharlach of Wicklow County Council Shay Cullen rejected suggestions Minister Humphrie’s presence was unnecessary.
