Wicklow is the last RNLI station with a Tyne class lifeboat in service.
Works will take place over the next three years to accommodate the arrival of a new Lifeboat.
The “ Annie Blaker”, has been the busiest all-weather lifeboat in the history of the station, involved in over 340 services, rescuing over 400 people however the vessel is coming to the end of its service.
A relief Shannon class lifeboat the “Jock and Annie Slater”, which is the fastest in the fleet, will be based at Wicklow before a permanent Shannon class vessel arrives in 2022.
Operations manager Des Davitt says the new vessel is state of the art
