Works will take place over the next three years to accommodate the arrival of a new Lifeboat.

The “ Annie Blaker”, has been the busiest all-weather lifeboat in the history of the station, involved in over 340 services, rescuing over 400 people however the vessel is coming to the end of its service.

A relief Shannon class lifeboat the “Jock and Annie Slater”, which is the fastest in the fleet, will be based at Wicklow before a permanent Shannon class vessel arrives in 2022.

The Tyne class lifeboat was officially retired from the RNLI at the Wicklow lifeboat station on Friday 5th April after 30 years’ service there.

During that period, the lifeboat was launched over 348 times on callouts and rescued 408 people. The Tyne was introduced into the RNLI fleet in 1982 with the final one built in 1990.

While the last Tyne is at Wicklow, there have been Tyne class lifeboats on service in Ireland at Arranmore, Lough Swilly, Kilmore Quay and Baltimore.
