The Enniskerry rider still plans to go for gold, having missed out on a photo finish.
Wicklow's Lara Gillespie has secured a silver medal at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai.
She was pipped to gold by Lorena Wiebes, coming in second out of 24 competitors. The Dutch rider claimed the title for the third year in a row.
The Enniskerry rider gave this reaction to Cycling Ireland afterwards:
The scratch race was the first event of this year's championships for the 25-year-old. Gillespie won gold in the elimination race last year in Chile.
Her next race in the championships is on Friday for the omnium event, and then Sunday for the points race.
