Katie Taylor's Remarkable Life To Be Dramatised In Theatres In HERstory

Katie Taylor - HERstory

Bray Bomber To Step Onto The Stage With Two-Part Show On Her Extraordinary Life & Times In Boxing

Bray’s Katie Taylor is taking her life story on the road in 2027 with HERstory, a two-part live show that was launched in Dublin yesterday.

The first half is a theatrical performance exploring Katie’s origins in Bray and following her story up to the end of her amateur career in 2016.

It will be directed by Andrew Flynn, director of Theatre at Galway Arts Centre, and produced by Katie’s manager, Brian Peters.

In the second half, Katie will take to the stage herself for a live interview with boxing journalist, broadcaster and author Steve Bunce.

Katie said: “People have travelled the world to see me fight over the years, so I’m delighted to be bringing my story to theatres around the country next year. It’s been such an incredible journey, but I was always focused on the next fight and the next challenge, so it’s really only since my fight in Croke Park that I’m starting to reflect on it all. I’m hoping these events will give people a new insight into my story and help to inspire a whole new generation.”

Brian Peters said: “HERstory is about a girl from Bray who never changed while changing her sport beyond all recognition and redefining what is possible. This will bring Katie and her story to people in every corner of Ireland. I believe what we are doing here is truly unique in that it’s really two shows in one night. The play in the first half will give people a whole new perspective on Katie’s origin story before they hear from her with an in-depth interview in the second half.”

Director Andrew Flynn said: “Developing a theatrical play about the Irish sporting icon Katie Taylor is a hugely exciting challenge. Brian Peters has brought together an incredibly talented and accomplished group of Irish theatre artists to dream up, devise and carve out HERstory. Our aim is to create a piece that is funny and moving, and brings the audience into Katie’s formative years. This play will give a sense of the young girl behind the sporting legend. Katie’s childhood, her determination, desire and the obstacles she faced in making female boxing a reality are all part of HERstory.”

The tour opens in May at Siamsa Tíre in Tralee, before moving on to the Theatre Royal in Waterford, the National Opera House in Wexford and the Town Hall Theatre in Galway. Further dates later in 2027 include The Helix in Dublin on 25 September and the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on 2 October.

None of the dates announced so far is in Wicklow.

The closest for Bray fans are the Wexford show and The Helix in Dublin.

Tickets for the May shows are on sale now.

Tickets for The Helix go on sale later this week, and tickets for the TF Royal Theatre go on sale on Thursday at 10am.

A limited number of platinum meet-and-greet tickets will be available for each event.
