The jury in the trial of a 34-year-old man accused of the murder of 50 year old Bobby Messett at Bray boxing club 3 years ago may never be told why the shooting was carried out.
Gerard Cervi from the East Wall area in Dublin 3, has denied killing Mr Messett at the Boxing Club on the morning of June the 5th in 2018. He has also denied the attempted murder of boxing trainer Pete Taylor and Ian Britton. According to the Irish Times, during his opening statement, the prosecution said nine shots were fired in different directions and that the accused pulled the trigger.. However Senior Counsel Paul Murray said the prosecution does not have to prove a motive in a murder case, but that there was intention to cause serious injury.
