Lauren Boland’s inquest was held at Dublin District Coroner’s Court this afternoon.
Lauren Boland was 2-years old when she choked on a pea at Little Explorer’s Creche in Greystones on January 18th 2023.
The inquest heard CCTV evidence of the girl shuffling in her chair while eating her lunch to alert staff, and pointing at her neck as she started choking.
Despite efforts to relieve her, she later lost consciousness, and was transported to CHI Crumlin - she later died in P-ICU.
Earlier, Lauren’s father Matt said his daughter ‘loved to dance’, enjoyed going to creche and being around other children.
Her mother Lisa said Lauren was ‘the boss of the house’ and described her as ‘perfect, and said she and Matt are living ‘every parent’s worst nightmare’.
Coroner Dr Clare Keane returned a verdict of death by misadventure, and said she will be recommending AED defibrillators be made available in all childcare settings, as well as a review of dietary guidelines in relation to potential choking hazards.
