Increase In The Number Of Those Under 35 Diagnosed With Covid-19

The number of children and younger adults contracting Covid-19 is raising concern among the National Public Health Emergency Team.

Of 202 cases diagnosed in the past two weeks, 76 were aged under 35, which included 16 under 14 years of age.

Two more people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the death toll to 1,717, while four new cases have been confirmed.

Meanwhile the Chief Medical Officer believes more people claim to wear masks than actually do.

Figures from the Department of Heath show that 41 percent say they wear coverings over their nose and mouth.

The advice here is to wear a face covering while shopping, taking public transport and settings where social distancing isn't possible.

More than four in 10 people have told the Department of Health they are wearing them when they should - however Dr Tony Holohan doubted the figure.

Earlier this month, Health Minister Wicklow TD Simon Harris admitted the messaging around face coverings has been "confused."

Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn said last night despite a rise in the number of people saying they wear face masks, it isn't near the numbers of people who are regularly washing their hands and social distancing.
