HPV Vaccine Programme Expanded To Secondary School Boys

The HSE says 112 lives could be saved every year if the uptake rate improves.

Ireland will become one of only 20 countries in the world to offer the HPV vaccine to boys and girls next week.

The aim is to protect even more young people from HPV-related cancers.

The uptake rate for the vaccine fell to 50 per cent two years ago - but it's now up to 70 per cent.

Campaigner Laura Brennan, who died from cervical cancer earlier this year, has been credited with that.

There's been concern about fake news being spread about the HPV vaccine online.

The Health Minister Wicklow TD Simon Harris says he'll be asking sites like Facebook and Twitter to do more to take down misinformation.
