Health Minister Believes Covid Restrictions Should Ease Soon

The Health Minister has said the Covid restrictions should be eased as soon as public health experts deem it possible.

NPHET will meet on Thursday with renewed confidence in Government some restrictions can begin to ease.

Hope is growing in Government of an imminent easing of restrictions, particularly on the live events and hospitality sectors.

Cabinet could meet as early as Friday to consider what NPHET recommends on Thursday.

This morning Health Minister Stephen Donnelly wouldn't be drawn on specific restrictions he expects to ease - but said they won't keep them in place if it's not necessary.

Government backbenchers and lobby groups are putting pressure on for a lifting of the curfew on hospitality.

That could change with the number of new Covid cases dipping, but Cabinet will take their lead from NPHET on Thursday.
