12 high-speed internet hubs have been earmarked in Wicklow under the government’s national broadband plan, announced in Laragh yesterday.
Five GAA clubs, two community Halls in Tinahely, Avondale Forest Park, the Brockagh Resource centre, a Hostel in Enniskerry, a premise at the county campus in Rathnew and Scoil Caoimhin Naofa in Laragh where yesterday’s announcement was made, have all been selected as high speed internet hubs in the county.
It’s also been revealed that €59 million of the three billion euro committed to the project will be spent bringing high speed broadband to 14,000 premises in Wicklow.
The government is facing questions as to why most media outlets were not invited to the announcement of the project, which it says was the biggest investment in rural Ireland since electrification.
