Given that the event was an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner, questions are now being raised about who organised the event and if they were civil servants, what actions if any will be taken.
Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer has apologised for attending, while its reported EU Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan was also there. It’s also emerged that Galway TD Noel Grealish, Senator Paul Daly and Senator Niall Blaney attended the event along with former RTE presenter Sean O’Rourke.
But it’s believed other politicians were present on the night.
It’s sparked angry responses on social media from people who couldn’t attend family funerals, hold their weddings or be present with other family members when newborns arrived.
