It will be accommodated in a local existing school building, but operate independently, with its own structures and Board of Management.
A Wicklow TD says a drip feed of information about a new special school in Bray has been deeply frustrating for parents.
Sinn Féin's John Brady raised the issue at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee and secured more details.
Deputy Brady says it will be within St. Fergal’s Primary School, in Ballywaltrim, Bray.
The new school will operate entirely independently, with its own dedicated structures and Board of Management.
It will accommodate 18 to 24 students in the new school year from September 2026.
Sharing the update John Brady asserted:
While this new school and this new information is welcome, parents still need clarity on timelines, admissions processes and how places will be allocated. The Department must move quickly to provide this detail and ensure that families are not left in the dark. I will continue to press for transparency and urgency so that children with additional needs in Wicklow can access the education they deserve.
The Department has confirmed the arrangement will not impact the operation, resources, or activities of St. Fergal’s Primary School in any way.
It's understood they will be advertising for the position of principal soon, and recruitment of teachers and other support staff will follow.
