The Justice Minister plans to introduce a single flat fee for solicitors handling District Court cases, regardless of how many times it returns to court.
Criminal defence solicitors in Wicklow are meeting this week amid growing concern over planned changes to the legal aid system.
The reforms would introduce a flat-fee payment structure for District Court criminal cases from July. Solicitors argue it could make legal aid work financially unsustainable and may result in fewer lawyers taking on criminal cases.
It comes with a warning that any reduction in legal aid services could lead to delays and disruption at court sittings in Bray. Concern is also being raised about access to legal representation for defendants across County Wicklow.
