Tánaiste Simon Harris announced the funding on Thursday June 5th as part of a multi-million euro investment under the Community Recognition Fund.
This scheme is about rewarding communities that have welcomed in people from Ukraine and other countries. The successful projects announced by the Tánaiste are:
• Greystones Town Team: Sustainable infrastructure to enhance Greystones community events capacity - €136,570
• Newcastle Playground, Greystones: Upgrade works - €160,000
• Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre: Construction of modern toilet block and convert existing toilets off main hall into storage rooms - €60,000
• Rathdrum Development Association: Walkway upgrade at Parnell Memorial Park -€43,700
• Wicklow Town Team Sustainable Energy Community Group: Window upgrade at De La Salle Pastoral Centre - €121,242
• Blessington & District Forum Trails Ltd: Resurfacing works at Blessington Greenway - €150,680
• Purple House Cancer Support, Bray: Kitchen redevelopment - €52,800
Speaking at the announcement Tánaiste and local TD Simon Harris explained “This funding under the Community Recognition Fund is about doing two things. Firstly, it’s to reward communities that have opened their arms and showed such generosity in welcoming in people from abroad. Secondly, it’s about making our local towns and villages more vibrant and more attractive places to live, work, visit and raise a family." The investment will make a huge difference to communities across Wicklow.
