Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore has welcomed the news that Newcourt School in Bray will be allocated an additional five SNAs to assist with understaffing in the school.
This was confirmed in the Dáil today with Deputy Whitmore by the Minister of State with responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion.
Speaking today, Deputy Whitmore said:
“I have been working closely with Newcourt School in Bray to assist them in addressing the understaffing they have been facing in recent years. The inadequate number of SNAs in the school was posing immediate and urgent challenges for the school, which is particularly concerning due to the high level of special educational needs of the children.
“Understaffing has been a cause of great stress for the staff. This is not an acceptable state of affairs for the staff or the students of Newcourt. These additional SNAs will be extremely welcome and allow for better educational outcomes for students."
"The staff of Newcourt go above and beyond every day for their students. The school is a lifeline for these children, who would have nowhere to attend school without it. They have been advocating for the needs of students to have more one-on-one SNAs and teachers available to their students."
"This allocation is a result of the hard work and advocacy of their Principal, staff and parents, who I have been proud to assist. I will continue to work closely with Newcourt School to ensure the required staffing levels and help them in their impressive advocacy for their students and their education."
