New research from the National Dairy Council has found that 56 percent of children under the age of 12 have never seen a cow being milked.

In this episode of Window on Wicklow, Jamie Ryan travels to Tom Short’s dairy farm in Newtown Mount Kennedy where pupils from Wicklow, Dublin and Wexford took part in a hands-on educational farm visit through the EU School Milk Scheme.

The visit explored the growing disconnect between young people and rural life, while giving students a first-hand look at food production, animal welfare and modern dairy farming.
