This week marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Fianna Fáil TD Malcolm Byrne has called for an invitation to be issued to Ukrainian President Zelensky to address the Oireachtas again.
“Three years ago in the immediate aftermath of Russia beginning its war of aggression against Ukraine we invited President Zelensky to address the Oireachtas. In the light of recent events I feel we should seek to hear from him again.
To send such an invitation would send a clear signal of our support for Ukraine in the face of the ongoing evil aggression from Russia.
It would also underscore Ireland’s commitment to defend the fundamental principles that are the foundation of a rules-based international order.
Furthermore it would also provide us with an opportunity to reiterate our support for Ukraine’s future in the European Union.
Volodymyr Zelensky has demonstrated time and again that he is a leader of the greatest courage and resilience.
His heroism in the face of such an onslaught has been truly inspirational. The Oireachtas would be honoured if he accepted our invitation again.”
