Over 580 breaches in employment law and abuse of workers’ rights have been identified in County Wicklow in the past two years.
New data obtained by Sinn Féin shows the Workplace Relations Commission carried out over 7,600 inspections in 2020 and managed to recover almost 1.7 million euro in unpaid wages for workers.
Since 2015, more than one-third of all investigations have detected breaches in employment law.
Last year Wicklow had the third highest number of breaches in the State.
Sinn Fein’s Wicklow T.D. John Brady has called on the government to address the issue by providing additional investigators and improve workers rights legislation.
