Wicklow Skies Alive As Bray Air Display Wows The Crowds

The 2026 Bray Air Display turned the Wicklow coast into the staging point for world-class flight event on Saturday. 

Celebrating 19 years, the aviation festival generated a great atmosphere along the packed Victorian promenade, blending elite modern performance with historic aerial excellence.

A small fire in a green area between the beach at Bray and Bray head was put out swiftly before the Air Display began avoiding any visually and logistical impact on the event.

Organisers told reporters that they believe the fire was begun deliberately but a fire-fighting helicopter was part of the air display programme and quickly put out the fire before it could spread.

A centrepiece sequence stole the show: a historic, world-class formation flight featuring the state-of-the-art Aer Lingus Airbus A321XLR flanked in tight, immaculate precision by Pilatus PC-9M trainers from the Irish Air Corps. .

The AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers thrilled the crowd with daring geometric routines performed directly atop moving biplane wings, while Team Raven stitched across the blue sky with tight, synchronised formations in their seven-ship Van RV8 display.

Flawless drops from the Black Knights Parachute Team targeted the beach with pinpoint accuracy, complemented by standalone tactical military displays from the Irish Air Corps and the thundering, raw horsepower of the legendary WWII warbird, the P-51 Mustang 'Marinell'.

The "Future of Flight" Tech Zone—a collaborative innovation space alongside the Drone Innovation Partnership was a huge hit.

Offshore, the anchored LÉ James Joyce provided an imposing maritime boundary for the high-flying spectacles.

With Bray Head as a backdrop, the community-run festival has become the biggest tourism draw in Wicklow, and organisers hope it inspires more young people to consider a career in aviation.

This year's line-up featured some of the top aerobatic teams from Ireland and overseas. In past years the display has included the RAF Red Arrows, Italy's Frecce Tricolori, the Breitling Wingwalkers, and the Irish Air Corps.

The event has won awards in recent years, including Best Festival Experience at the Irish Tourism Industry Awards in 2017, and Silver for Best Tourism Initiative at the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards in 2018 and 2019.

Its online reach has also grown. Last year the festival reached one-point-three million people on social media, had over 146,000 visits to its website, and saw almost 13,000 downloads of its programme.
