Wicklow RNLI volunteers spent Sunday night at sea answering two calls to rescue first two paddle boarders unable to get back to shore and then a drifting yachtThe RNLI’s inshore lifeboat and volunteer crew was first launched at 7.35pm on Sunday, August 7 after members of the public walking on Wicklow Head saw two paddle boarders in difficulty and made a 999 call to the Coast Guard.
The paddle boarders were located by the lifeboat five minutes later with the help of members of the public on Wicklow head, who shouted down the location of the paddle boarders to the lifeboat crew. As the tide had turned the two paddle boarders were being pushed further south by the current and were unable to get back to Wicklow. The two paddle boarders were taken onto the lifeboat where the crew carried out a quick medical assessment. No further medical assistance was required and the two casualties were landed safely ashore at the lifeboat station shortly after 8pm.
