An initiative by a Wicklow parents association to offer voluntary agreements restricting the purchasing of smartphones is gathering pace
An initiative by a Wicklow parents association to offer voluntary agreements restricting the purchasing of smartphones is gathering pace with as many as nine primary schools in the south of the county now exploring the possibility.
Inspired by actions undertaken by Greystones and Delgany parents associations, members of the Tinahely NS Parents Association have been progressing the implementation of agreements with parents not to purchase smartphones until children reach secondary school in an effort to remove the burden on parents feeling pressured into buying them.
After sharing their concerns about the impacts of social media and inappropriate content on developing brains, a sub-committee of the Tinahely NS Parents Association surveyed parents at their 128-student school and received an overwhelmingly positive response.
