The Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has written to the Chief Executives of a number of the key statutory bodies, including Inland Fisheries Ireland, the Environmental Protection Agency and Failte Ireland, as well as the Minister for the Environment, expressing his concerns about the proposed landfill at Ballinclare, in Kilbride just off the N11.
Kilsaran Concrete have applied to An Bord Pleanála for permission to backfill the existing Ballinclare Quarry.
Minister Harris has echoed concerns already raised about the implications of the runoff from the landfill into adjacent wetlands. He says the proposal has serious implications for the environment and tourism industry in the area.
Simon Harris has also submitted a request to An Bord Pleanala seeking a public oral hearing on the application.
