The Minister for Justice Wicklow TD Simon Harris has been asked to convene a meeting to discuss living conditions at the Grand Hotel in Wicklow Town.
The direct provision centre used to mostly accommodate families, however in recent weeks a number of families were moved out and replaced by mostly single men.
191 of the residents now in the centre are now single males.
A video of a fight between two asylum seekers outside the hotel also went viral a few weeks ago.
Councillor Paul O’Brien sought a suspension of standing orders on agenda matters during January's meeting of Wicklow County Council.
Councillor Gail Dunne says Minister Harris needs to provide further clarity on how the centre is being managed.
