Wicklow town’s all-weather lifeboat was launched at around 10 o’clock last night, after a sailor was reported missing from a container ship, 16 miles off the Wicklow coast.
The lifeboat along with The Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 were involved in the search which resulted in the injured man being found just after 11 o’clock last night by the lifeboat crew, 5 miles northeast of the Codling Buoy.
The sailor was assessed by a Rescue 116 Paramedic, who was lowered onto the lifeboat, before he was airlifted to hospital in Dublin.
