Wicklow County Councillors are calling for Taoiseach Simon Harris and the Minister of Education, Norma Foley to intervene regarding the school transport scheme.
The School Bus issue has worsened in the 'last two years' as numerous families are still struggling to find a method of transport for their school-children in Wicklow. Many families were shocked to discover that there was no room for their school children on the school bus even after a confirmation of accommodation had been received.
Councillor Peir Leonard for Arklow has successfully requested a suspension of standing orders, following a meeting of the Wicklow County Council.
She stated: “When I first got elected I started to get representations from parents who had been informed there was no place on the school bus for their kids, and it has actually gotten worse over the past two years. I didn’t think things could get as bad as last year, but this has been the worst year ever."
“There are lots of parents I have spoken to, not just from Arklow, but from across the county who are struggling, often after only having been informed there was no space just days before the start of school. This whole lack of professionalism is causing huge stress for families.”
