Wicklow County Council is responsible for approximately 15,500 public lights throughout the county.
These lights consist of both ESB Network (21%) & non ESB Network (79%).
These are provided across a various pole types, primarily Steel (70%) and Wood (27%), with the remainder made up of Aluminium, Cast Iron, Concrete, Wall Mounted and Composite materials.
Additionally, approximately 500 of these lights are heritage types.
Due to the recent storms, all ESB Networks crews have been focused on restoring power supply across the country.
ESB Networks has confirmed that their priority is to restore power; they will only begin work on public lighting once the power supply network has been repaired.
In recent weeks, Wicklow County Council has allocated additional engineering and administration resources to address the concerns raised by the public and elected officials. Ongoing efforts will continue to ensure that the new maintenance contractor addresses the existing backlog of faults and provides the necessary resources to meet these requirements.
