Wicklow County Council Open Applications For Built Heritage Investment Scheme

The closing date for applications is 4pm on Friday 27th September.

The BHIS seeks to encourage the leveraging of private capital to invest in a number of small scale, labour intensive projects to repair and conserve Protected Structures, buildings within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACA’s) and other eligible historic buildings.

Applicants are advised review the guidance booklet carefully as there are a number of significant changes to the BHIS from previous years. Under BHIS 2025, grants of between €2,500 and €50,000 may be awarded, with applicants required to provide a minimum of 20% of total costs.

Historic shopfronts and vernacular structures, which were previously included in the Historic Structures Fund (HSF), will now be funded under the BHIS. Grants from €2,500 to €50,000 are available to incentivise the conservation of Historic shopfronts.

Vernacular Structures grants from €2,500 up to €30,000 are available for conservation repairs to non-protected vernacular buildings, in order to safeguard the structure and keep them in use. If they are protected structures, grants of up to €50,000 can be applied for.

Smaller grants of less than €2,000 to support the upkeep and maintenance of historic properties will also be considered. A suitable method statement, drawn up by a competent conservation professional, must accompany all applications received under BHIS 2025.

Applications must also include photographs of the proposed works.

All completed applications (Form A) should to be clearly marked ‘Built Heritage Investment Scheme’ and returned by email to plandev@wicklowcoco.ie or by post to Planning Section, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Wicklow Town.
