A Wicklow TD has criticised the owners of a caravan park in Arklow after additional barriers were erected to block the public right away to the North Beach in the town.
Sinn Fein’s John Brady says using the Covid-19 health crisis to further illegally block the public right of ways at the site is unacceptable.
Following correspondence with Wicklow County Council, an investigation has been launched in an effort to resolve the situation.
It’s understood legal representatives for the Council have been instructed to initiate legal action under the Planning Acts with regard to previous developments at the site.
An application for funding to reinstate the Coastal Walk at North Beach was previously turned down by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The popular walk was destroyed during Storm Ophelia in 2017.
In January 2018 junior Minister Boxer Moran visited Arklow to see the damage first hand.
