Wicklow Community Centres To Receive Investment Of Over €116k.

County Wicklow has received funding of €116,520.75 as part of the Community Centres Investment Fund.

County Wicklow has received funding of €116,520.75 as part of the Community Centres Investment Fund, details of which were announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD.

The new Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF) will support groups in every county to carry out refurbishments and improvements of their local community facility. The funding will see improvements to community centres, GAA clubs, parish halls, youth centres, men’s sheds and facilities used by our elderly.

In the case of Wicklow, the county was successful in receiving the following funding under Category 1 of the Community Centres Investment Fund, including:

  • Askanagap Community Development Association - €24,900.00
  • Ballinacor Community Project - €25,000.00
  • Ballywaltrim Community Centre Company - €18,032.20
  • Nockan Developments Wicklow - €25,000.00
  • Rathnew Community Centre CLG - €23,588.55

Cllr Tommy Annesley, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, welcomed the funding, saying it was an investment in communities across the county.

Chief Executive, Mr Brian Gleeson, said it was a vote of confidence in communities who are doing their best to improve facilities in their local areas under adverse economic conditions.

Mr Michael Nicholson, Director of Services for Community, Cultural and Social Development, stated that the funding will be of great benefit to local communities and welcomed the Minister’s confirmation that grants would be announced for larger scale projects later this year.

Making the funding announcement, Minister Humphreys said:

“The local Community Centre is at the heart of our towns, villages and parishes all across this country. They come in many different shapes and sizes and are a place for people of all ages to meet up and socialise with friends, old and new.

“I want to support these great local facilities and that’s why I launched the new Community Centre Investment Fund earlier this year. The level of interest has been unprecedented and I am delighted today to announce over €12.5m in funding for almost 600 projects nationwide.”
