Wicklow Amongst Heaviest Users To Avail Of Scheme Helping People Build Or Buy New Homes
Since its launch in July 2022, the Government’s First Home Scheme has helped 4,118 people buy or build homes across Ireland, providing over €273 million in support.
Wicklow is one of the top counties making use of the scheme, with 8% of live approvals, alongside Dublin, Kildare, Cork, and Meath.
The Scheme, a €740 million fund part of the Housing for All strategy, supports first-time buyers by bridging the gap between mortgage, deposit, and home price.
The average support per home is €66,000, and two-thirds of buyers also combine it with the Help to Buy scheme for additional funding.
In Wicklow, the price ceiling for properties under the Scheme is €500,000, matching Dublin and several other areas making it an attractive option for first-time buyers in the county.
Minister for Housing, James Browne TD, highlighted the Scheme’s success:
"It has proven vital for thousands of first-time buyers, which is why we have extended the Scheme and allocated a further €80 million in funding."
The First Home Scheme also supports self-builders and tenants purchasing their rental homes, with Wicklow residents eligible under both initiatives.
