Deputy chief medical officer Ronan Glynn says the country is in line with what has been happening in other parts of the world.
Meanwhile business group IBEC is calling for the Irish and UK Governments to align their responses to lifting Covid-19 restrictions.
The organisation, along with CBI Northern Ireland has written to the Taoiseach, along with the First and Deputy First Ministers in the North calling for more co-operation.
The letter says a combined effort would provide the best results in emerging from the pandemic, while protecting public health.
