There's been a significant drop in surgeries in public hospitals over the past year. New data shows waiting lists for inpatient care have increased by over 30 percent.
Figures from the Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre show breast cancer surgery dropped by 38 percent between 2019 and 2020.
There's been a 26 percent decrease in colorectal cancer surgery, hip replacements are down 28 percent, while gall bladder surgeries have dropped by 34 percent during the same period.
All emergency surgery is down 26%, while Outpatient waiting lists have increased by over 12 percent, with patients waiting longer than 9 months up 40 percent.
Waiting lists for day cases or inpatient care have increased by more than 30 percent.
