Concerns have been raised at the costs incurred by the Department of Education in providing temporary accommodation, land, prefabs, and former educational buildings in County Wicklow.
Over 11 million euro has been spent over the past five years, 6 million so far this year alone.
Following correspondence with Wicklow TD John Brady, the Minister for Education Norma Foley has said a planning application for Greystones Community College will be lodged before Christmas.
The school is due to open in September 2023 with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 students.
Deputy Brady says every effort must be made to ensure the school is completed at the earliest possible opportunity.
