A senior official in the Department of the Taoiseach will be questioned today over the abandoned appointment of Katherine Zappone as a special envoy.
Secretary-general Martin Fraser will appear before the Oireachtas foreign affairs committee.
The cabinet approved Ms Zappone's appointment in late July - before she pulled out amid controversy over the selection process.
