Review Of Rail Services In Wicklow Looks For Greater Frequency And Higher Speeds

The cost of implementing the 32 recommendations in the nationwide review by 2050 is estimated to be between €35bn and €37bn.

Among the recommendations that would affect commuters in Wicklow include;

• Increase service frequency to at least one train every two hours on Rosslare Europort services.
• Increase regional and rural line speeds to at least 120km/h (75mph).
• A net carbon zero rail system, primarily through the overhead electrification of intercity routes and new electric trains
• Reinstate the South Wexford Railway, connecting Wexford to Waterford.
