The Greenway Group behind the initiative feel funding is urgently required for coastal erosion protection, with a cycle and walking Greenway built at the same time between the towns of Wicklow, Kilcoole, Newcastle and Greystones.
With the additional €10 million committed by the government in Budget 2019, to a total national fund of €63 million, the group are optimistic they can turn their Greenway dream into a reality.
The Wicklow County Development Plan which runs until 2022 has acknowledged that tourism and recreation makes a significant positive contribution to the local economy and a continuous sea-side greenway for around 25km would help to increase numbers visiting local attractions.
