Over €700k For Three Regeneration Projects In Wicklow

This includes the Kirikee Community Hall, the old 1869 schoolhouse in Lacken, and the BMX pump track at the Murrough in Wicklow town.

3 key regeneration projects are receiving funding in Wicklow today including:

• The long awaited refurbishment of Kirikee Community Hall,
• The renovation of the old 1869 schoolhouse, in Lacken, into a vibrant community heritage centre and café,
• And the expansion of the current BMX pump track, at the Murrough in Wicklow town, into a development of an asphalt covered pump track for all ages and abilities.

In total Wicklow is receiving €725,000 under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

Speaking on this news, Taoiseach Simon Harris said:

“I am thrilled to announce Wicklow is receiving close to €1 million in funding today for three crucial community projects.

“These projects once completed will have a hugely positive impact on people across Wicklow and will tackle dereliction at source.

“What we want to do in Wicklow and across the country is invest in our Towns and Villages to make sure they get a boost, remain vibrant and stay active.

“I’m really pleased the BMX pump track in Wicklow Town is getting nearly a quarter of a million funding to further develop the facility.

“We need to invest in young people and their hobbies, especially if these are outdoors and improve health and wellbeing.

Since the Town and Village Renewal Scheme was introduced in 2016, over €176 million has been approved for more than 1,700 projects across the country.
