Irish Rail are to assemble a design team for the DART extension to Wicklow Town.
The project was given a boost last month after it was announced a charging point will be installed at the station, to charge the battery electric trains for the county which are currently on order.
In December 2021, an order for 95 new DART carriages, consisting of 65 battery-electric and 30 electric carriages, was approved by Government as part of the DART+ Fleet and these carriages should enter service in 2025.
Councillor Gail Dunne says the extension will help enhance transport options for local communities.
