Wicklow County Council issue advisory note after recent heavy rain.
Bathers are advised not to swim at the following locations due to the likely increase in bacterial levels in the bathing water for 3 days (until 24th July).
• Wickow Harbour
• Brittas Bay South
• Brittas Bay North
• Arklow South
• Arklow Cove
• Greystones Cove
• Greystones South
• Bray South Promenade
• South of Bray Harbour
• Silverstrand
• Clogga Strand
The warning comes from Wicklow Co Council following yesterday's heavy rain and orange status weather warning (Monday 21st July 2025).
To reduce the risk of illness, beach users should take the following precautions:
• Avoid swallowing or splashing water
• Wash your hands before handling food
• Avoid swimming with an open cut or wound
• Avoid swimming if you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.
Higher levels of bacteria are usually short-lived, and most bathers are unlikely to experience any illness.
The next scheduled sampling will take place on Wednesday 23rd and Monday 28th July.
