Wicklow town sees a 61% increase in the number of domestic violence orders sought between 2022 and 2023, going from 90 in 2022 up to 145 in 2023.
Figures released to Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú by the courts service show that in county Wicklow 599 people applied for a domestic violence order in 2023, up from 527 people in 2022.
Up until September 2024, 408 people applied for a domestic violence order in Wicklow.
Bray saw a 5.9% increase and Arklow District Court recorded a small decrease of 1.7% between 2022 and 2023.
Wicklow’s District Courts granted 68% of domestic violence orders that were applied for in 2022 and 65% of domestic violence orders that were applied for in 2023.
The figures, up until September 2024, show that 72% of domestic violence orders applied for in Wicklow in 2024 were granted.
