More than €1 Billion Spent Through Contactless Payments In December

It's a new record level of spending via the payment system.

With consumers now tapping with their cards, phones and even watches, contactless transactions have hit record levels.

Figures from Banking and Payments Federation Ireland show more than €36 million was spent per day in December using contactless methods.

The Federation says current Covid-19 restrictions will undoubtedly impact transactions and consumer spending in general.
