The Taoiseach says new tracing legislation for those affected by illegal adoption will be advanced as a priority.
His comments come after an RTÉ Investigates programme revealed thousands of Irish babies were illegally adopted over several decades, with many unaware they had been adopted.
Micheal Martin told his parliamentary party last night the issue is shocking, and government will work to ensure those affected are helped and supported.
