Wicklow and Arklow Municipal Districts have voted to ban election posters in certain areas during this year’s Local and European elections.
Councillors passed the motions at their monthly meetings and want candidates and their agents to honour the agreement, to show solidarity with Community Groups and Tidy Towns committees.
The main streets of Wicklow Town and the Main Streets of the villages within the Wicklow Municipal District will be designated as election poster free areas, while in Arklow, the poster ban will apply on poles from Hills Garage right through the main street, out to the Knockmore Roundabout.
Main street areas of Greystones, Bray, Enniskerry and Newtownmountkennedy have also been earmarked as poster free zones.
Sandra Hall of Arklow Tidy Towns says they are very pleased with this decision.
