Lincoln City Snap Up Wicklow Talent Mason Melia For Season-Long Championship Loan

18-year-old starlet gets chance to further impress Tottenham by doing the business for Lincoln in the Championship this season

Lincoln City have snapped up the talents of Newtownmountkennedy youngster Mason Melia from Tottenham Hotspur for a season-long loan in the Championship.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international will spend the impending 2026-27 Championship campaign at the ProAmpac Stadium or Sincil Bank if you know your football.

The Wicklow wonderkid had left St. Patrick's Athletic  in a record-breaking deal when Tottenham secured his service after an impressive breakthrough at Richmond park.

He made his senior debut at the tender age of 15 and became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history.

 The deal proving indicative of his worth to the south Dublin club who secured €2 million up front, with the deal rising to €4 million with add-ons.

 “I’m delighted to be here and get everything completed. Everyone I’ve met has been so welcoming, and I’m excited to get going in the Championship,” Melia said.

“My aim is to score goals, help the team in every way I can and contribute to a successful season for the club.”

The Newtown man was excited by the club's plans...

 “The ambition of the club really stood out to me. Our first conversation was a bit mad because we were trying to work around all the different time zones while I was in Australia, but once we got everyone together the presentation was unbelievable. It played a huge part in my decision to come here because it showed me the club’s vision and what we can achieve together.''

He's aiming to hit the net many times...

“It made me feel really wanted, which is important as a footballer. I came away from that meeting buzzing. My aim is to score goals, help the team in every way I can and contribute to a successful season for the club. I’m really excited for what’s ahead.”

Lincoln sporting director Jez George said the club had beaten significant competition to sign the forward.

“It has been well documented in the press that we beat up to 30 other clubs for his signature, and he is an exceptional talent who we feel can make a big impact for us in the Championship,” George said.

Melia was part of Tottenham’s recent tour of Australia and played 25 minutes against Sydney before completing his loan move.
